Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu
Starring: Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts.
The plot follows Riggan Thomson (Keaton), a faded Hollywood actor best known for playing the superhero "Birdman", as he struggles to mount a Broadway adaptation of a short story by Raymond Carver.
Here's a little message I have for you, before we go into this recommendation. I decided to change up the format for the C.T Recommended selections. I took inspiration from Criterion, and I will be numbering each entry into the famed CTR (starting now). Also instead of a regular review format, I will just be including a summary of what I think about the film, with the new fresh template, meaning you can just read it off Instagram. Also, the CTR annual awards will return by the end of the year, and will be the same like before. I will be picking 4 films that I've seen this year and reviewed, to be a enter the CTR, while there is also a selection of films that will go against each other, and you guys will be voting for that film to be the 5th entry.
There is nothing much to say about this film other than it's cinematically fantastic. The plot is interesting and captivating with Michael Keaton shining in the spotlight, with an impeccable performance backed by a great cast. Lubezki's cinematography is phenomenal, and the film's long takes were incredible. It's innovative, it's funny, it's hard-hitting, it's simply brilliant. Bravo to the brilliant director that is Iñárritu and the cast/crew, for what is my favorite film of 2014.
My rating: 9.5/10
