Today on the 16th of July of 2019 for the 20th anniversary of the launch of "Eyes Wide Shut" a community of movie lovers got together to review it for @MovieLoversMovieClub, check all of the reviews with the #MovieLoversMovieClub. Hello guys and gals from Germany, where I'll be spending most of my vacation. I'm currently writing this review out of a traveling car, so forgive my grammar and writing in general. Stanley Kubrick is one of my favorite directors, and it would be a crime not to review his final film on it's 20th anniversary. After watching it, I can say that it was fantastic, but definitely not for everyone. Kubrick works in mysterious ways, and this film relies on it's mysterious and eerie tone. The plot is strange, but definitely engages like a psychological thriller by exploring themes such as sex, marriage, and infidelity. Backed by powerful performances by both Kidman and Cruise, this film holds no hands, and packs a punch plot-wise and artistically. The cinematography is great, but the pacing might put people off as the movie runs on for 2 hours and 39 minutes. The film does feel way ahead of it's time, and it may not be the best Kubrick film, but it definitely is one that has an impact. In conclusion, this film proves that Kubrick can work on any genre and make a significant impact, but as I mentioned before, this film is not for everyone. Kubrick's final film is both eerie and head-scratching, but overall great and worthy of a viewing.
My rating: 9/10
