Directed by Hans Petter Moland

Starring: Liam Neeson, Tom Bateman

The plot follows a snowplow driver who sets out for revenge on a local drug lord following the murder of his son.

Wasn't initially going to see this film, to be honest. I was supposed to see Capharnaum, which was delayed until further notice. Seeing as I had free time to see any other film, I decided to see Cold Pursuit, and I thought it was pretty enjoyable.

The plot consists of multiple subplots and perspectives. The film definitely gave me Fargo vibes, as it does have quite a lot of dark humor, which is common to the style used in Coen Brothers films. One word of warning, if you are expecting to see the usual Liam Neeson film formula, which is the same revenge action-packed film, prepare to be disappointed. The tone was really inconsistent, and the pacing was a bit too fast at first, but it is balanced later in the film. The plot itself was a little dull in the beginning, but gets entertaining later into the film. Acting was alright, Neeson was good, wasn't his best performance, but definitely better than most of his recent films. I honestly forgot Laura Dern was in the film, she was completely useless and forgettable. I also loved Bateman's role as the antagonist, Viking.

Visually the film looked alright. The snowy landscapes give that Fargo feeling (This movie is literally Fargo under a different name, so sorry for the Fargo comparisons). Love the idea of presenting the characters with nicknames as well as giving a little 'tribute' when they meet their demise.

In conclusion, not a perfect film, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Loved the Fargo references and it's dark humor. Quite a fresh film for Liam Neeson, and definitely one of his better films in recent years. It's certainly a film that doesn't expect you to take it seriously, and that's what it makes it so enjoyable and funny.

My rating: 7.0/10
