Directed by M. Night Shyamalan

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, James McAvoy

The plot follows the three super-humans, locked in a mental hospital as they try to escape from a psychiatrist who is out to prove them they do not possess any super-human abilities.

There is no doubt about it, this is definitely one of the most anticipated films of 2019. This is the third film in the Eastrail 177 trilogy, which includes Unbreakable and Split. To be honest, when I saw the initial critic reviews of the film, I wasn't really shocked. M. Night, unfortunately, is known for his inconsistent film record. Upon seeing it, I can say that it wasn't as bad as the critics said it was, and it was pretty enjoyable. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have issues.

The plot takes place three weeks after the events of Split. The plot was quite underwhelming, and I was expecting much more. James McAvoy was brilliant once again as the complex Kevin Wendell Crumb, and honestly might be the best thing that kept me entertained throughout the film. Samuel L. Jackson was also great as Mister Glass, while Bruce Willis and Anya Taylor-Joy, felt underused and wasted. The first half of the film was great, but the film just dragged on with it's inconsistent pacing, and the chaotic final act only led to a disappointing and sloppy conclusion.

Visually, the film looked great, no doubt about it. The cinematography was excellent, and I loved the color palette in certain scenes (especially that gorgeous pink room). one of the film's low point was it's editing. the film's editing wasn't good, which led to the inconsistent pacing, which can bore audience members. The music from James Newton Howard was alright, although I was underwhelmed that James Newton Howard didn't return to score the film.

In conclusion, while I did enjoy the movie to an extent, there still was a sense of disappointment. I understand that this film will be divisive amongst viewers, and I want to clarify that this is no way a bad film, and definitely not worse than M. Night's other films (cough cough, The Happening, After Earth). I just wished it was handled better than it actually was. This however shouldn't stop you from watching the film, and judging it for yourself. I enjoyed the film, but not as much as I definitely wanted to.

My rating: 7.0/10
