Directed by Steven Caple Jr.

Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson Dolph Lundgren.

The plot follows a fight between Adonis Creed and Viktor Drago, son of Ivan Drago, the powerful athlete who killed Adonis's father Apollo Creed.

Well this is it, Creed II. The hype was real since it was announced a few months after the first film released in 2015. After talks of Dolph Lundgren going to reprise his role as Ivan Drago, I knew I was going to jump aboard the hype train. After finally seeing it, I can safely say it was a solid, worthy sequel to it's predecessor.

The acting was spot on from everyone. The characters were further developed which is always appreciated. I was quite worried that it would only focus on the fighting aspect of the film, and ignore the human characteristics that made all the Rocky films feel special and emotional. Thankfully, they did not ignore that. The film gave me a lot of Rocky IV vibes, which I liked, since it was one of my favorite Rocky movies. The music is great as usual, and is inspirational like most of the films in the Rocky Franchise (Get your gym playlist ready). Despite Coogler's departure to direct Black Panther, I felt Caple Jr. did a great job directing this film.

The cinematography was great, but I did prefer the original's use of one-take fight shots. This does not mean it was not good though, I did like the fight scenes in this film as well, with some impressive filming angles showcasing the action (I actually flinched at times, with it's POV shots). I am also not saying this film was perfect either. While it was good at building character, it was also highly predictable. In a certain way, this reminds me of Mission Impossible: Fallout, I expected better but I was not disapointed.

In conclusion, it packs a punch. This film was made with heart and inspiration, and this film will no doubt be a film that inspires and motivates people. Quite predictable, not better than it's predecessor, but still a solid sequel nonetheless.

My rating: 8.0/10
