Directed by Thomas Vinterberg

Starring: Mads Mikkelsen

The plot follows a man who becomes the target of mass hysteria after being wrongly accused of sexually abusing a child in his kindergarten class.

After a long week of midterms, I finally had the chance to see the Danish film "The Hunt" or also known as "Jagten" which had one of my favorite actors Mads Mikkelsen. I have to say it was phenomenal.

The cast were all good, and all of the characters were very relatable and genuine and had great chemistry. Mikkelsen was fantastic and proves why he's still one of the best actors for any role. Mikkelsen's character who's named Lucas, was just a nursery teacher who enjoyed playing with his children, and after all that he has shown, one accusation ruined his reputation throughout the village. A person that was fun and full of life, turning into desperate and suffering man, that all residents stay away from. Even after all that is happened, and everything is forgiven overtime, that accusation will still come back to haunt him, and that he is truly the one being "hunted". I really felt for Lucas in this film, he was wrongly accused, and Mikkelsen's performance showcased the suffering that he had endured throughout the 2nd half of the film, which was terrifying. This fantastic performance led to Mikkelsen winning the Best Actor Award at Cannes Film Festival, which was fully deserved.

The story was well written, and the direction was perfect. This film's realistic tone makes it's emotional and disturbing. This film makes you frustrated, happy, angry. It's a movie that conveys all emotions, and the director makes sure of that through it's perfectly shot sequences. Trust me when I say this, there is really nothing I can say that is bad about this film.

The cinematography was great, and it was a great choice to shoot the film in a isolated village symbolizing the closeness all of the characters relationships, and showcased the good and the dark things about living in a small village. There wasn't much music, but when there was, it was perfectly placed.

In conclusion, it's a fantastic, powerful, film which is really gripping and emotionally draining. This one, is one you shouldn't miss, it's a very beautifully made and acted film. This one will stay in your mind for the days/months/years to come. Definitely one of the best films I have ever seen.

My rating: 10/10
