Directed by Julius Avery

Starring: Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier

The plot several American soldiers who are dropped behind enemy lines the day before D-Day and discover secret Nazi experiments.

I know what your thinking, this is basically Nazi zombies the movie (or just Wolfenstein), and basically you are correct. This movie sparked my interest when I saw the trailer 2 weeks back. After being invited to the opening night (Thank you KuwaitCritics!), I had the chance to see it, and I have to say it was surprisingly alright..?

The cast did a good job, and I liked the characters and character development in the film. The film felt like a B movie with a A movie budget. It's plot was standard, and It's action sequences were well shot and gory (which you very much expect from a zombie flick at this rate). There was one effective use of a jump-scare, which caught me off guard (the rest of the jump-scares are just predictable and stupid). The cinematography at times is impressive with some well-shot scenes, and the makeup design was great. That first act was really crazy, It was really entertaining and I really had fun watching it.

The film barely had any zombies. I don't know about you, but when I heard about this film, i was expecting a complete zombie splatter fest like most zombie films, I was completely shocked to realize later that it barely had any. While it did lack in zombies and strayed away from the kill counting zombie films, I can still say it was enjoying. The CGI at some points was awful and just laughable (one of the scenes reminding me of Alien Covenant as well). Some of the jump-scares were so predictable and cheesy, and the overuse of these stupid jump scares just ruin the mood the film tried to present.

I felt the film would be better off as a war film without the zombie elements surprisingly, as the first act was really impressive (The film felt more like Saving Private Ryan than it did a zombie film). In conclusion, an entertaining zombie flick, one of the better ones, not great, but definitely far from terrible too.

My rating: 6.5/10

(Keep in mind, score is subject to change, but I feel this a fair rating for now, at least until I re watch it when it releases on Blu-ray.)
