Directed by Drew Goddard

Starring: Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz

The plot follows a group of college students who retreat to a remote forest cabin where they fall victim to backwoods zombies and the two technicians who manipulate events from an underground facility.

This is a really unique horror film, at first I thought it was going to be a cheesy typical horror film baiting out easy audiences, I was wrong. While this movie is necessarily a horror film, it mostly satirizes horror films and their tropes/cliché’s, and is quite comedic.

The cast is really good, especially the two technicians (Jenkins and Whitford) who you do see manipulating the events, and triggering the classic horror cliché’s such as "splitting up" and generally the characters being dumb. The writing for the film was great, and it had a good blend of humor and horror to keep everything under control. The film has so many Easter eggs and references for those who are horror fans, so keep your eyes open for those.

I really can't go into much without spoiling the film, but I really recommend this unique film who not only critiques horror films and their cliché’s but also applauds them for their originality. I really wish there can be more films like this, it was really smart and it was well executed.

In conclusion, the film is really funny and good. Whether you are a horror fan or not, you will enjoy this film and it's "love/hate message" to horror movies of the past and certainly the future.

My rating: 8.0/10
