Directed by Ryan Coogler
Starring: Michael B. Jordan Sylvester Stallone
The story follows Apollo Creed's son Adonis Creed, who is struggling to climb up the boxing charts, and seeks the help of his fathers former rival and friend Rocky Balboa.
First thing I can say is that I am finally done with my summer courses, which means I will be posting more often then before. I got a lot more content to come, and I can't wait to share something big in the next few weeks.
Upon seeing the trailer I was excited of the prospect of a movie set in the Rocky universe without Rocky being the main man. When the movie finally arrived and I got around to seeing it, it was much better than I anticipated it to be.
I loved Sylvester Stallone's role in the movie, from the main man in the series to the mentor, and his arc felt similar to Mr. Miyagi's in the Karate Kid films. Michael B. Jordan's performance in the film is also outstanding as he is on the quest the compete in the boxing ring and to prove others that he is truly the son of legendary boxer Apollo Creed.
The writing was excellent mirroring Rocky's path to greatness to Creed, who also had a tough upbringing, but his motivation to succeed lifted him to the very top. The soundtrack is good and will be memorable even after viewing the film, with the same motivational perks and tracks that the previous Rocky films have had.
However, what takes the cake for me, was how the film was shot. Most of Creed's fights were shot in one take, making it so realistic and so smooth. The final fight section of the film was outstanding, with nearly every camera angle being used. the section was shot looking like an actual boxing match with a HBO POV angle, and angles behind the boxers as well as on the mat itself, it was near perfection of angle usage. I with many, was immersed in this section, as if it was live on TV, and we were rooting for Creed to win.
The film teaches a lot of life lessons, and I for one is very excited for the sequel to arrive later this year. Ryan Coogler has done a tremendous job, and I can't wait to see what he has coming next.
My rating: 9.0/10
