Directed by Ron Howard

Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover.

The plot follows the origins of pilot Han Solo prior to the events of "A New Hope".

With all due respect to Star Wars fans, I'm pretty sure you and I knew this film would bomb in the box office. I don't see myself as a massive Star Wars fan, if anything I actually don't understand the hate with the Last Jedi. Well it did have flaws, but that's whole different story for another day.

Let's get right into Solo.

I really didn't want this movie to happen. Believe me, I didn't. But, you have to expect it, with Disney in charge, they are going to keep pumping out Star Wars movies left, right and center, in order to gain the most profit. I went into the theater, with the mindset that this film was going to be horrible, and well, it kind of was?

The beginning 15-20 minutes were pointless to me, as it just gave further background knowledge of the antihero we know that is Han Solo. It didn't get better until after he met Chewie. that was when the movie changed for me, and it became much more entertaining, instead of the boring introduction with Han joining the Imperial Navy.

The acting was mix and match, I found Donald Glover to be the best part of the film showcasing the young unpredictable Lando who owns the infamous Millennium Falcon. Emilia Clarke was good, and here it comes, Alden Ehrenreich who played the main man Solo, was "OK". I don't understand the decision to pick such a inexperienced actor to play Han Solo, there were better choices out there, and there were apparent rumors that he needed an acting coach on set, that is embarrassing nonetheless. I don't blame the actor himself, who wouldn't want to play Han himself, I blame the producers for putting so much pressure on him to perform. Well to say, he started horribly. As I previously stated, I couldn't stand the first 15-20 minutes of the film, he's acting was just so below average, that I really wasn't enjoying the film as a whole. he got better towards halfway through the movie, but it wasn't him ultimately decided my verdict of the movie. It was the writers.

The writing of the Han Solo made him look a good guy, which he isn't? Han Solo will go down in legacy as one of cinema's finest antihero, and that's what they didn't showcase this movie, ultimately they made him look like a good guy. Back in the original movie, Han played by the brilliant Harrison Ford, didn't have to save Luke during the final fight scene, but he did, and that's what separates him from the other characters, that he does not have any connection to other characters that Chewie, and he would look the other way if given the loot to do so. That I did not see in this film, and if it was shown, it was obscured.

the movie, in conclusion was just OK, wasn't good, but wasn't bad and definitely enjoyable to a certain degree.

6.5/10
