Directed by Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost
The story involves a group of friends who reunite to complete a infamous pub crawl, only to discover that their hometown of Newton Haven, isn't what it seems to be.
First and foremost, before I discuss the film. I would like to apologize for the inconsistent posting and lack of reviews and recommendations. I just finished my exams, with what seems to be another stressful month of summer courses on the way. I will try to keep the posting consistent, but I wouldn't say I can be sure until my summer courses finish at the end of June. Thank you.
Well with that done, let's begin.
Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors, he directed films such as Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and the well known Cornetto Trilogy of films (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World's End).
This film came to my attention late 2014, and I didn't even realize this would be the last film in the enjoyable trilogy that it is in. the previous films were great, Hot Fuzz being a big standout and that deserves a whole review on its own (wink wink), so I was definitely excited in seeing The World's End.
The film was great, and displayed the fantastic film making that Edgar Wright has done years on end.
The writing was done excellently by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg displaying the seriousness and absurdity of the story, which involves a group of friends returning to their hometown to complete a pub crawl they never could back in their teen years.
The acting was great, and the chemistry was brilliant once again specifically from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who have been in many films together. Each character had it's own arc throughout the movie, and that really shows through the main character of the film, Gary King. He is not only focused on completing the Golden Mile (what the pub crawl is called), he is obsessed with it, ever since they left Newton Haven back in their teen years.
There is a lot of detail in the film, and also many foreshadowing. the film deserves two viewings to catch onto these details and Easter eggs.
It was funny, it was fun, it was emotional, and it was sad, most of all, it was good. It was a train of emotions that you as a viewer, cannot afford to miss.
Edgar Wright caps off the Cornetto Trilogy with style, with what it is one of the most enjoyable films I have ever seen. My rating: 8.5/10
