Directed by Martin McDonagh Starring: Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson
The story follows a mother who rents three billboards to seek attention to her daughters unsolved rape and murder.
Part of my Oscar nominated list, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri has been on watch list ever since its release, and now I’ve had the chance to watch it.
The movie had a really dark tone and slightly comedic tone, with serious topics such as rape, suicide, and murder.
Firstly, the acting was really spot on, everyone in the film was outstanding. Frances McDormand’s performance as Mildred Hayes was powerful and emotional as she conveyed what it felt for a mother to lose her child to such inhumane and evil acts and her will to never back down to redeem her daughter’s death and to ensure that she does not die in vain. Sam Rockwell who played the racist deputy Jason Dixon, was incredible funny, and emotional as he tries to face humanity and realize that times have changed.
The soundtrack and the cinematography fit the mood, the overall impact of the film was powerful and emotional, that protesters began to use inspiration from the film to showcase their voice in society.
Overall, with 2 major Oscar wins, and 3 massive nominations (including Best Picture), this film was really powerful and has built a legacy that will not be forgotten in the near future.
My rating: 9.0/10
