Directed by Edgar Wright

Starring: Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm

The story follows Baby, a music lover who is forced to work as a getaway driver for a kingpin.

When I saw this film while on vacation at Beirut, I was stunned. The choreography is like no other, with the actions of the characters synchronized with the movie’s soundtrack. I, like many others, have been a big fan of Edgar Wright’s work, with movies such as Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, and Scott Pilgrim Vs the World.

The acting, was brilliant from everyone, although I did feel Jamie Foxxx was lacking, and was quite disappointing, on the other hand, Jon Hamm excelled and proved to be a menacing character on screen. Its soundtrack, which was the core ‘director’ of the film, was fantastic and was entertaining when synchronized with the character’s movements. Cinematography is great by Bill Pope.

It was really unlucky it didn’t win Best Sound Mixing, because I felt it truly deserved it, there are no films like it, when it comes to the auditory department. Overall, it was a really fun film, which makes you want to watch it again, and again, and with each viewing, you find something new each time. I look forward to Edgar Wright’s future projects.

My rating: 9.0/10
