Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen
Starring: Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem.
The story follows a drug deal gone wrong in 1980 Texas, with a fellow Hunter picking up the cash left in a briefcase, with his enemies and a merciless hit man by the name of “Anton Chigurgh” right on his tail.
I saw this film one year after it’s release, before heading to the states, and it was phenomenal. It’s lack of music and suspenseful scenes are ambient to the theme of the dark wild west. This was shown through the brilliant cinematography by the great Roger Deakins, who displayed the scenes perfectly and shot beautifully.
The acting was also super. Josh Brolin played the hunter who happened to pick up the briefcase. He showed the emotions and struggle as he tries to maintain the money to help support his wife. Tommy Lee Jones, plays a retiring deputy who narrates the story as well as his personal stories of how he remembered the days of living in the west. Last but not least, Javier Bardem who had a career booster after playing his role as the hit man Anton. His portrayal was just merciless, frightening, and powerful, truly one of the top 100 villains in cinema, and truly deserving his Oscar award for Best Supporting Actor.
With two major Oscar wins including the prestigious Best Motion Picture, this film is certainly a must watch, and a masterpiece. My rating: 10/10
